I'm thinking about buying

http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-802-11n-Airport-Extreme-Card/IF185-038

Which upgrades my core duo's G network card to N. My question is that since my university uses G for wireless will I experience further range with this card?

I don't really care about wireless N I just need more range since every time I'm in a lecture with lots of PC's I usually disconnect or connect at only 1 bar.

You will only get increased range and speed when connecting to an N router.

The MBP's aluminium case does horrible things to the wireless signal... that might be your main issue.
