Actually, after two hours at the shop I was finally able to leave - without the phone. 😡
Turns out their computers wouldn't accept my credit card for monthly billing because the name on my card didn't exactly match the name on my ID - my ID shows my middle name, but my credit card doesn't. Therefore, they were unable to sell me the phone. 🙄
So I ordered directly from Apple. But the delivery date is Oct 27-Nov 5.

On my passport/driving licence I have one name, but my national insurance has me under the short version (think, for example, Samuel/Sam). Never been an issue in three decades, but would hate for it to suddenly be an issue on iPhone day.
Yes, but they both showed my middle name. The issue was that my credit card only showed first and last name. 🙄
The guy was apologetic and could clearly see how asinine the situation was, but their computers simply would not accept the discrepancy so that was that. 😞
