Hey everyone! This is my first post here, and glad to say I'm about to purchase my first Mac :D I just have a quick question before I do.

I was hoping to buy the base model but include a dGPU. That isn't an option though, so I'm wondering how much I will actually need the dGPU, or if Iris Pro will be enough for me? I don't particularly game a lot, but have dabbled in photoshop a little. I'm thinking I'll be fine with just the Iris Pro? I guess I assumed a $2k laptop would include dGPU, but I guess if iGPU's are up to it why not.

I am a musician and will be using this for music production, so I'm thinking I'll spend the money on 16GB ram and maybe the 2.3Ghz processor...

What are your thoughts?

My personal opinion is that you won't get any big advantage from a dGPU for Photoshop / Music apps. It would make a big difference for 3D and such.

For your intended usage, I think it will do just fine, even without the full blown 16G RAM ( 8G should be ample, unless you want it for future proofing ).
