Hi MacRumors,
I have been following this forum/website for quite a while. I followed the whole "when's the next MacBook Pro being released" on here. I have needed a new laptop since last year but I've kept my windows machine going. It still works (just) but the screen is terrible and it has a great habit of updating it's self while your in the middle of working (frustrating).
I have now got a little bit of money; so, I think it's time to take the plunge!
I am a physical therapy student in the UK (with a view to continue studying in some capacity post registration and potentially going to med school in the future). So I would like this Mac to last a few years! I need something that is powerful but is commutable, as I cycle into school. I will be using this between the hospital, library and my room where I have a stand-up desk.
So do I stick with the base model 13" MBP which is £1,304.40 (all prices are educational prices) or is it worth the jump to the 13" touch bar model which is £1,574.
However, I think i am going to upgrade to 16GB ram so I can future proof the device and I tend to have lots of tabs open when I am working. Or, do I stretch my self and go for the base 15" model at £2,114.40 which already has 16GB and has a slightly larger screen which could be handy for working with two documents side by side.
I have had a look at both in the Apple Shop and they are both tiny laptops, so I think either would be applicable. Also is apple care worth it?
Also I think I will be purchasing one of the LG screens for in my room before they go back up in price. I try to work on a larger monitor and get behind a stand-up desk wherever possible. I currently have a 24" monitor would I miss the space by dropping down to 21" or do I bite the bullet and go for the 27" LG monitor.
Ideally, I can have a great little machine for getting work done in the hospital and then plug it in back at my room and have almost an iMac experience and get best of both worlds.
I am looking for peoples opinions.Apologises for the long post. I hope you all have an awesome Christmas.
David
