Someone gave me an old Powermac G4 the other day and it seems to be doing ok. I dont really know much about mac but it seems to be much better then Windows XP or Vista. ive been a long time Windows user and I can honestly say Mac kills Windows.

I was gonna say something, but then I thought to myself, "Do I really want his first "welcome to Mac!" posting to be by a half-drunk lunatic with the IQ of a rabid badger?"

And the answer was yes!

Congratulations! If it killed Windows, please make sure to sweep up all the little bits, or you'll no doubt step on a piece someday and damn well regret it, and it's all sharp and glassy.

Yeah, most people who try Macs don't go back to Windows, at least not completely. If you have any questions about the OS, the fine people on this board will be glad to help you out.

Congrats on the new Mac, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I, too, have an old PowerBook G4, and I can vouch for how well it runs with the latest OS and the latest in software suites (like iLife, Office, and CS2). It's a solid, solid Mac.

Have fun, and welcome to the community!

Its a 350mhz G3 B&W, 256 RAM, 20 GigHD, Radeon 7000 Graphics Card, mac OS 10.3. Even this old Mac seems more stable then my PC which is only 6 months old and has Vista. BTW: Vista is such a rip off of Mac OS!

Pop a gig of RAM into that with a G4 ZIF upgrade (processor) and that unit will serve you well for the next 2-3 years.

Congrats on your first mac!

I would suggest not doing that. The processor card is $300 itself... if you're going to be spending that much money, just get a macmini...

The $300 is for a 1GHz G4, and it would still have a FSB of only 66MHz... you're much better off getting a macmini for the money. That is if you do intend to put money in it.

Im not planning on putting a lot of money into it. I bought a DVD drive off of ebay for like $12. One of my friends gave me a 256MB stick of RAM. If I can find a G4 ZIF on ebay for a good price, ill probably buy it. I might try to sell the thing soon and get a mac mini or macbook

Just wait until you get a faster machine, and when Leopard comes out, you will truely be amazed! You gotta remember that stuff you are using is like 5 years old... do you know what pcs were like 5 years ago? *Shudders*

Actually, it was 8 years ago... The blue and white came out in Jan. '99.

At the time, PC's were at Pentium II 400ish MHz.
