So my first ever Macbook is arriving tomorrow and it's the new 13 inch 2020 Macbook Pro (i5 10th gen). I've never owned an Apple product before other than my iphone.

Can you guys please tell me what I need to do in terms of breaking in? What are the first things I need to do? Any settings changes? Must-have apps? Any tips on how to maintain battery health?

Any and all tips would be highly appreciated!

Just use it. Try not to keep it plugged in all the time. Dark mode is really nice (you'll be prompted for light, dark, dynamic) during setup.

Open the app store, sign in and be sure to accept adding Numbers, Pages and Keynote to your account so you can reinstall them later.

You're probably aware but you can customize the dock to have the apps you want on it and remove the ones you don't.

Any settings changes? - I'd just recommend going into System Preferences and browse around. Especially the trackpad section if you don't use an external mouse.
Must-have apps? - May we ask what you're gonna use the computer for?
Any tips on how to maintain battery health? - Don't install Chrome. Otherwise you'll be fine.

Oh yeah - DEFINITELY play around with the trackpad settings. An additional one that comes to mind, that is in Accessibility rather than the standard trackpad settings, is the 3-finger drag so you can move windows and such by just dragging 3 fingers on the trackpad.
