, I'm new to the mac world and purchased a new Imac 27 which came shipped with Lion. Not sure where this needs to be posted but here we go, I'm having an issue where it seems I can't telnet to a mail server on port 25. I have my imac and two other windows machines on the same network and the windows machines can telnet a mail server on port 25 but the mac can't, even my windows 7 vm I have installed on the mac using vmware fusion. I tried connecting the mac directly to my ATT modem and still same issue. I tried it in safemode and no bueno. I tried googling my issue and have not found anything that can help me and I even called Apple support but they not able to find the issue. Not sure if Lion has a firewall that blocks outbound port 25 but I had a buddy test his macbook air with lion on it and he was able to telnet to the mail server on port 25.
I have tested smtp.gmail.com 587 and it works, try it on port 25 and it fails to connect. Tried the same on my windows machines and it works. If anyone has any other suggestions/help I would greatly appreciate it. I am trying to migrate over to 100% mac and finally get rid of my windows boxes but in my line of work I need to do certain testing with exchange servers and this will be something I need for my mac to do.
