Hi, nice to be here.

Upon the Lion release, getting a 21.5" iMac 8GB, along with an iPad 2 WiFi/3G, size TBD. My wife getting the same iPad along with a Mini. We are guessing early Aug as Lion out sometime July and Mini refresh late-July early Aug according to the rumors. And what would Apple be w/o rumors?

Had a Oct 2007 era iMac with the first gen of Leopard---always swore I woudn't do the first gen of an OS ever. It froze more times than an Eskimo in January- a disaster, back it went. Got an HP PC.

Can lighting strike twice? We hope not.

IMHO it would be much wiser to buy now and use Snow Leopard, you will get Lion as a free upgrade anyhow. The advantage is you get a stable OS on delivery and then have the luxury to sit back and see if Lion is going to be as stable. There is no advantage to waiting and getting SL reduced the risk of that lightning you're so worried about.

Leo was rock solid, and with 90 days free phone support plus apple stores all over -- not sure why just gave up. And if your first instinct was to buy a HP... well then Im not sure what kind of logic that was.

buy and install your own ram, my 7 year old could do it.

$80 for 8 gigs, total of 12 when you are done: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na&AID=10521304&PID=4169666&SID=4gka9tj1l8vn

Unless the mini gets a serious kick, I wouldnt buy one. Id go right to another iMac.
