Ive had my iMac god knows how long, running fine with no problems, until yesterday when i think i may have got a virus. So.....the problem being that i cannot now access my windows partition due to the flashing _ in the top left corner, now i'm sure theres been plenty of posts about this but ive tried everything and im not keen on losing everything on my windows side lol.

So is there an actual solution to this or am i going to have to remove/re-install the partition and lose everything for it to work ?

Ive tried the repair, recovery console which asks me for a admin password which doesnt seem to work as ive tried all my passwords, so im lost, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

First of all, you do not have a virus. Ok?

Moving on, a flashing what? in the top left corner?
Not sure I really understand whats going on. Have you tried booting into BootCamp (restart and hold the option key)?

Slow down and maybe explain your issue a little better.

O K, the reason i put that i may have a virus is because i was downloading something i probably shouldn't have due to a risk of getting a virus, so yes 'actually' that is a possibility as it started happening the same day.

Now like i said i have tried everything, i have held the option key and tried booting up windows in bootcamp but then that is when the BSOD appears with the flashing underscore or cursor in the top left corner.

Has that been slowed down enough for you ?

Thanks Again.

What exactly have you downloaded in what exact OS (Mac OS X or Windows)?
Regarding Mac OS X and viruses and malware, there is the following, often neglected FAQ:
Mac Virus/Malware Info by GGJstudios
There are currently no viruses for Mac OS X in public circulation, only a handful of trojans and other malware, which have to be installed manually via entering the administrator password.
The only anti-virus you need to protect your Mac is education and common sense.

Can you access the Windows partition via Mac OS X?
You could backup all your important data and then reinstall Windows, as it seems to be broken.
Have you looked at any of the "Windows can't/won't boot" guides out there?

No need to be that way, maybe the following can help you getting help, as it is all about properly communicating the situation.

For example:

What exact Mac and Mac OS X version do you use? What exact Windows version do you use?

It sounds like your windows partition is unrecognized. I would say just stick the windows disk back in and reformat it. You may be able to run a repair installation if you really need the stuff on the windows partition. This may have been caused by a virus (if you were downloading on windows), or your harddrive might be failing, or windows could have just gone a corrupted itself.

Reformat, reinstall, stop downloading sketchy things.

You can still boot into OS X right?

Yeh, i was downloading something of a site called 'Keygen' on the windows side of things, obviously wish i didn't now.
Anyway i am on windows xp sp3, pretty much everything has been going ok since i got my mac and partitioned it, ive had it maybe 1 and a half years so a decent amount of time.

I have also tried the repair installation which didnt help at all but as you say something may have been corrupted, i dont know tbh, i cant seem to find the answer to it so i may have to try and remove the partition and re-install :(

Now I gotcha. Well, kill me for assuming that you were doing something in Mac OS X when you decided you got a virus and started freaking out.

Now that I know this I wouldn't have even posted cause I don't know how to fix virus problems.

You're just asking for trouble by downloading "keygen" for Photoshop or whatever program.

Good Luck.
