Well it finally happened folks. I just noticed the first nicks and scratches on my brand new MacBook Pro. I have no idea how they could've gotten on my machine, but they are here and there's nothing I can do about it sadly enough. What did the rest of y'all feel like when your MBP got its first scratches? Is there anything I can do to remediate them, or is it too late? I thought about purchasing some type of protector case or shell for it, but I didn't want to take away from the beautiful look it naturally has as a Mac. Hindsight, maybe I should have actually bought a shell for it. Oh well, too late now....

We live in an imperfect universe. I've come to expect imperfections in things, whether brand new or through use. It happens. No big whoop. Use the machine, don't worship it's perceived perfections I say.

Fair enough. But it’s just hard with the first scratches lol. I know it’s not gonna be perfect. I’m surprised it stayed clean this long. But I won’t die over it lol.

Can you provide photos of scratches? Some of them you can easily fix by yourself. I personally did it.
They are very small surface scratches on the corners of the machine so it’s somewhat hard to see them with pictures. What would I do to fix the scratches myself?

Did you go with space grey? I don't have any visible scratches on my 2015 that I know of. I haven't pulled out the magnifying glass, admittedly. Do the newer ones scratch more easily?

I actually went with the silver model. So I assume the scratches are probably kore visible.

When I first got my first nick/dent/scratch on my MBP on 2015, I actually didn't care, It happened 2 years after I got it.

A massive waste of time, money, and effort. These machines are designed to be used for many years. Of course it will get dings and scratches. And forget about trying to “shell” it for resale value. Depreciation is by far the biggest hit to resale value, not normal wear & tear. You’ll waste significantly more money on a “shell” than you’ll recoup on selling a scratch-free Pro.

I’ve noticed my hinge was a little out of place and was nicked — I must of put down my backpack too hard. When my key failed in my 2017 MacBook Pro, they had to replace the whole top case which replaced the hinge and nicked corner. If you are ‘fortunate’ enough to experience the keyboard flaw, they’ll have to replace the whole top case for you too, thus replacing the damaged top case.

Eh... the 2016-2019 models will more than likely dent or get bent. Even in a bag. Even when you take perfect care.

Aluminum is just that soft. It's the nature of the material.

That said, having a case or a shell is still highly recommended because they will prevent the MacBook from getting destroyed due to impact when you drop your bag or something hits your bag.

I have cracked the screen of my MacBook simply by dropping my bag. Seriously.

So don't take your chances. The scratches will be the least of your worries.

You can to use that tool for nails. It has different parts, you can start from soft one. Do not press too much and just go through your scratches. In that way I fixed my silver MacBook Pro.
