Boy Genius Report reports that it has received a gallery of screenshots showing off early versions of Microsoft's Office for Mac 2011 productivity suite, scheduled for launch later this year.
We've just scored some of the first shots of Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, and while they are said to be very early, you can clearly see the progress that has been made in the transition to native Cocoa applications.
The set of seven screenshots shows off Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as Outlook, which will replace Entourage as the e-mail and calendaring component of Office for Mac. The shots also demonstrate how the "ribbon" toolbar display that first appeared in the primary applications of Office 2007 for Windows to mixed reviews will be implemented for Mac.

everything looks better except for Word! Who cares I guess, Pages is far better for word processing anyway, but I would love to have a version of Excel that was easier to use.

This is good news. I look forward to Office 2011. A lot of Apple people hate the idea of anything MS on their Macs - but Office, especially Word, does some things that no other word processor will do. I'd move to iWork if it had the features I need but only Word seems to have them.

I guess having ribbons in MS office will force people to move to Open Office or iWork. =)

Loving the New Look, Now why can't you put some money in developing Mac:Messenger and I would pay for the whole package :)

No kidding. If they don't provide a way to hide the ribbon, I'm moving as much of my work to Pages as I can. I don't care how often I have to export Word docs.

I don't think we need a toolbar AND a ribbon. I suspect the ribbon would be pretty good if you hide the toolbar.

Mac software that looks like it belongs on the Mac?

Is it true? Can Microsoft actually learn how to compete?

Now if they're really smart they'll come out with Microft Office for the iPad before the end of the year!

I'm not hopefull, but boy, that'd be something, wouldn't it?

I'd say the Outlook screenshots are mighty confusing. Nav all over the place. That needs to be cleaned up pronto.

So long as you are able to format the documents exactly the same as the windows version it will be fine. Thats the one thing that ***** me with the current version. There are so many things that format too differently to make it worthwhile using.

Just looking forward to outlook. I don't like entourage and mac mail just doesn't do enough and has too many problems with exchange servers

I really looking forward to this. I don't like the 2008 version's UI one bit. I can never seem to find anything since I am used to the PC Version due to the fact that I have to use it at work.

I hope there is a beta phase where anybody is able to participate.
