I am tired of windows, I have used MS os for 20 years!
so I am thinking of buying a new "in the box" macbook pro 17" 200 gig 2gig ram 2.6ghz that a guy is selling new for $1650. I am an author, and would also like to use dragon dictate.
I am going to look at it in person (I'm not a total idiot:)
This sounds like a good deal.
Any tips on avoiding a rip off?
Can I always buy additional years from applecare if necessary?
thanks Bill

yes

I know it sounds too good...so I will ask for the serial number. Dell uses a service tag number...so Apple uses the serial number?
Try to get the serial number if you can because that sounds too good to be true. That's US$ right?

This sounds like the model I bought from SpringBoard for $1799. So if he's selling it for $1650 he'd be losing a few bucks. I'm typing on mine now and its a great machine with High res screen. Good luck.

At $1800, yours sounds like it was probably stolen- that's a $3,000 machine.

There's no way this is legitimate... even if you end up with it, and it's not a scam, it's probably stolen.

Just get a low-end one for $1999 (or buy a refurbished one for about $1800), and at least you'll have a clear conscience :)

No, not stolen. Came from SpringBoard Media authorized Apple reseller. Serial number checks out and yes and yes what a deal it was. I'm typing on it now.
