Hello! I'm gonna buy my first 13' Macbook pro and I was wondering if there's a big differences between the mid 2009 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2011 i5 Macbook Pro. I found the mid 2009 for $750 and the 2011 for $900. I don't think I will be doing much video editing, just internet, chat, games on Steam, and for school.

The big difference between the two is the processor and video card, Intel Core2Duo vs. Sandy Bridge. For your every day use - internet, chat, games, etc., I think the 2009 MBP would be suffice. By the way, you can probably get a 2010 2.4GHz for $750, keep looking around.

Go with the new one, you'll be happy you have it in the long run. C2D are pretty outdated as it is, so unless you only plan for having this laptop for like a year, I would go for the 2011. Plus, it's only $150 more.

Even if you don't use the full potential now, you never know what programs you might start using in several years that require more power.

While it may be older, it will certainly be viable for more than a year. However, that isn't a great deal at $750

At those prices, I would spend the extra $150 and get the i5...its much faster than the C2D. However, based on your usage, a C2D should work fine for you but the 2009 is overpriced.
