I have discovered some really awesome things with the new trackpad. I am sure those with the newer MacBooks already know these, but for the newbies, try some of these out:

  • In iMovie, try to force touch on the fast forward button of a blank movie (or do it in QuickTime). Now force touch on the play button. There are different haptic responses. I get the sensation that it is harder to press when there is nothing to fast forward.
  • In Xcode, try aligning some labels. If you don't have Xcode, try this in Preview. Add two annotations and line them up. When they "snap" into place, there is some haptic feedback.
I am very surprised by some of these details. Can't wait to see it used more now that more people have access to force touch trackpads.

Edit: I found a list provided by Apple: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204352
