Dear All,

I have always used Windows and/or Linux computers, I can be classified as a power user.

So I have been gifted a 13.3 Macbook Pro ME867LL/A and I really want to give Mac a try (please do not take this as a PC fanboyism, I am not a fanboy of anything and I really want to find out great stuff about Macs and love it in a different way than my PC).

So aside from specific software advice, I would like to ask "what would you suggest I do first?" any handy configurations or settings that will make life easier, or any software that you would not do without?

I also want to ask for some specific software advice, I would pretty much like to have free software aside from Papers (I am really curious about this one) and Microsoft Office, some software types I would be looking for would be:

- Scientific (aside from Mathematica and Matlab)

- Notetaking (OneNote is my primary research notebook, I am looking for something with tabs or categories, something small, as to have daily reminders or so)

- Syncing (not cloud type, something that can do file syncing accross multiple devices on the run)

- FileSystem Accessibillity (Does something like ntfs-3g exist)

- Codecs, Codec Packs (Honestly I do not know if iTunes will open anything)

- Customization (Not looking for something very heavy, but maybe to move the dock around, and maybe I would want to move window buttons :) )

- Something like Notepad++

- Anything that is amazing but I did not know it existed?

Any sort of advice, help, suggestion is greatly appreciated

Thanks in Advance
