First time mac user. Setting up media server for PS3?

Hey guys, I know this topic has been covered a couple times as I have searched. Problem is the threads I did find were a bit tech speak heavy. I come from basically using PCs my entire life. So lately back in school I really needed a laptop, and wanted it to last through med school so everyone recommended getting a macbook pro. So Saturday I went to the apple store and got a 2.3 quad core 15 inch. Now still getting used to it, but the one thing I cant quite figure out is setting it up to play my tv shows on my ps3. With my desktop I just used windows media player, but I assume that wont work for this. The topics I found before I honestly didnt quite understand. So if anyone out there knows how to do it, any chance you could point me in the right direction in terms of what to download and how to set it up? Thanks.

Download. Point it to shared folder/s in settings. That should pretty much do it.
