First timer... (Can I sync my apps?)

Hiya! Sorry for sounding totally retarded here. But i have a question. I own a 4th generation iPod touch. I recently purchased an iPhone 3 from eBay. Can I sync the apps? Will they work? I ask because I had a 2nd gen iPod touch and it wouldn't sync my apps. I can't remember the reason given.

Redownload it on your 3GS App store. Just click on the 'purchased' tab at the bottom and click 'not on this iPhone' at the top and it'll show everything you've purchased
