The Prokit 5 update that was released a few months ago caused many people with older versions of the Pro Apps, specifically those designed for PowerPC, to crash upon launch. I experienced this problem with several of my old Pro Apps and developed a fix a few days after the release. Apple hasn't formally recognized the problem so most people end up just wiping their hard drives. I've seen a lot of message boards just telling you to do that so I felt bad not releasing these instructions a while ago.
If you have a PowerPC version of a Pro App and it doesn't work now because of the ProKit update from a few months ago this should fix it.
Fixed it. I had the same problem with Motion 2 and it took me a while, but I found a fix. It should work for you as well. It is fairly in depth so please tell me the results if it doesn't work. You may want to print the post so you have a hard copy when your computer is fixing itself.
Step 1: Download Pacifist: http://www.charlessoft.com/ It allows you to install old versions of frameworks in your case the prokit.framework
Step 2: Download this file http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/prokit45.html
It is version 4.5 of the prokit.
Step 3: (A little tricky) Open Pacifist and Click Open Package, select the 4.5 installer file I had you download. It will bring up the contents of the installer package. Click the first item in the list (Contents of ProKitUpdate 4.5.mpkg). In the top left click Install. Several Messages will appear asking if you want to replace files. Click Replace for every one. Warning There are a lot of them!
Step 4: Repair Permissions! Go Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Click your hard disk and then click repair permissions in the bottom right. This will take a while (5-15 mins) Don't worry about all the errors it shows, these are normal.
Step 5: Open the Pro App/Apps 3-4 times in a row to get it crash several times. This is important for preferences I believe. It didn't work otherwise.
Step 6: Shut down your computer. Then turn it back on holding the Shift Key. This will open your computer in Safe Mode and clear the erroneous libSystem.B.dylib cache. Login if you have a password before proceeding to step 7. THIS IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT.
Step 7: Put your Mac OSX install disk in the slot before shutting down. Then start your computer while holding the C key for 10 or so seconds. This will load the reinstall osx program. Follow the dialogs until you get to the one with customize on the left. Click customize and make sure Rosseta is unchecked! Then clicl ok and install. Wait the hour or so it takes.
Step 8: Your computer will boot normally. Go to Software update and update everything except prokit 5.1. Never install any future prokit updates...ever. You probably want to repair permissions again, but its your call.
Hope that works. Best of luck. Please post some results.
