2007 Macbook running 10.6.3
Was getting beachballed to death. Progressively got worse and worse until every 10sec my system was unresponsive with the beach ball.
Tried all the usual tricks, disk first aid, PRAM, removing flash, over-riding the fans to run faster...etc etc etc
To FIX
1. I created a new user account.
2. Manually took the files i needed; music, pictures, docs from the old home folder, via the shared folder, to the new account.
System is running like new. When i created the new account and logged into just that account, i tried a bit of browsing as was able to see straight away the problem was fixed. So i transferred all my files.
The problem must be some files in the old user account, so backing up and erasing a disk would not work.
Hope this can help some others out there. Good luck.
