my powerbook has more than the number of dead pixels necessary to send it in. i was wondering how this problem is fixed. do they replace the screen with a new one, fix the old screen, or send back a whole new laptop?

Well I am having a similar issue. I think I'm just shy of the number needed for a replacement, but I did research the issue. According to the Apple website, you are supposed to take it in to a local authorized Apple service center or whatever. You can find one near you on Apple.com. I think Apple needs someone to physically verify that yes, indeed, you need a replacement, before actually shipping it off...
