So, I found a 20" 2.1 iMac G5 waiting around for certain doom at the local recycling place today. Upon closer inspection (after saving it from there, of course), I found that its LCD panel was disconnected from the logic board, most of its screws were missing, and the front bezel was detached.
Long story short, I reconnected the LCD panel back to the logic board, and got the front bezel to a state where it could actually attach back to the rest of the housing.
Upon boot, it chimes, the front LED darkens, and stays there for 30 seconds or so until the fans kick into high gear. No image is ever displayed from the LCD, although I haven't yet tried using its mini-VGA port with another monitor to rule out that the LCD panel is bad. Trying a PRAM reset yielded no second chime.
Aside from faulty caps (which I have not checked yet, as they seem to be located on the back of the logic board, requiring further disassembly), do you guys have an idea what might be to blame here? I've always wanted one of these things, so I think it would be pretty cool to get one working once again.
Thanks, all.
