flash files (.swf) aren't playing sound in firefox or safari

just as the title says. whenever there is an embedded flash file on either of the two web browsers (i havent tried any others), im assuming that the movie/song is playing, however it is not producing any sound. any ideas? thanks

also, if it helps, i'm using a 2.0 ghz macbook
