Flash is not opening

I just got the Flash software and downloaded it to my computer and if I double click to open it, it doesn't work....I mean, the icon will show up for a about 1 to 2 secs and it seems like it's trying to open, but it abrupty stops and it doesn't open at all. Of course per software requirement, my computer has been updated with all the latest "sotware update requirement". I'm using Mac OSX. Please help!
