I remember reading a while back that Adobe said that they could create a Flash player for iPhone's Safari browser if Apple OK'd it. Were there any news updates since then?

I don't ever seeing it happen to be honest, and if it does I think the earliest it would happen would be at the next major software release (3.0).

What is the need for flash on the iPhone? Could someone fill me in on this one?

I think it's basically that people want to be able to watch videos that are on other sites like YouTube. Otherwise, I see no sense in trying to get Flash support for Mobile Safari.

It would be nice to have at least one common web format supported on the phone. Oh...and if you don't understand the need, don't download it. Meantime, get out of the way.

The iPhone is wayyy to slow for flash seriously my PowerMac Dual 2.7GHZ G5 lags to hell just paying youtube.

Then something is wrong. The iPhone will be able to run Flash because it doesn't have to support the resolution of a PC. Also, it can run 3D games, so that means that it can definitely render a 2D picture. There are also quality options when using Flash.

This is a very ignorant response. First nothing is wrong with my G5 except the extremely in-efficient flash plugin. Second NO; the iPhone could never handle flash. First because flash is coded in its own language which has to go through 3 steps before it reaches machine code (each step taking lots of processing power). 3D iPhone games can be compiled and run directly in machine code. Flash is simply not included on the iPhone due to performance, end of story.

Flash isn't that complicated, insofar as I suspect the iPhone could handle it. The reason flash isn't on the iPhone is because websites that use heavy Flash simply wouldn't work correctly on a touch device. Playing Flash videos is one thing, but interacting with complicated Flash UIs on a touch device is entirely another story.

Seeing as way inferior phones can support flash I doubt that is the real problem ;)

Ever tried opening Flash and hit the Mobile button? It's there for a reason you know...

I'm interested in having Flash on my iPhone because StatTracker on Yahoo Fantasy Football requires Flash. It would be nice to be able to track my fantasy football teams on Sundays using StatTracker from my iPhone when I'm away from the house.

Detroit Symphony website is fully flash, I used to be able to trace the audition information on the go. No longer can:(
Apple, please, bring on the flash player for Safari. PLEASE!!!!!!

you know you can get flash on a iPhone if you jailbreak it:rolleyes:

The reason Apple doesn't support Flash for iPhone because they afraid web app games (flash base) will kill their appstore. Let's think about you visit a website to play/buy flash games instead of buying the same game at appstore, then how they make money? That's what I think :apple:
