I have a serious problem. My MBP 13'' 2011 4GB RAM usually runs fine…EXCEPT when watching youtube videos. Safari just freezes constantly, and it is extremely annoying. What can I do to improve performance?

Flash is way too inefficient, and I know now why people criticize it so hard. :p

how about you update flash
I agree. For Flash-related issues:
  • Find your Flash version and make sure it's the latest version available. Never install or update Flash from a pop-up on a website. Always go to Adobe's site to get Flash or updates.
  • Install ClickToFlash (Safari), Flashblock (Firefox) or FlashBlock (Chrome) to control which Flash content plays on websites.
  • Try using the YouTube HTML5 Video Player to watch YouTube videos, when available. (May impact fullscreen viewing. See link for details.) As far as performance impact, YMMV.

Agree completely with Flash being horrible on OS X. Works 100x better on my Android devices. I had to install AdBlock just so the majority of the flash based ads wouldn't show up. After I did that, Safari is a lot more stable. Try the HTML5 version and see if it makes a difference.

I had the same problem with version 11.2.202.223. Upgrade to the latest version (11.2.202.233) and it should fix your problem.

Youtube playback on my MBP has been really bad lately, far worse than it used to be. Updating flash didn't seem to help. Using Chrome it is a bit better but still not perfect. Other flash videos websites such as iPlayer work fine so I don't think it is just a flash issue.

Flash isn't fail. It works perfectly on my 2010 MBP ( 330m GPU ).

Safari for some strange reason has been horrible for Youtube videos for me. I tried Google Chrome and it is significantly better, try that and see if it works.

Not to be one of those google chrome freaks, but seriously, try google chrome if you wanna watch YouTube videos. Works Alot better!

I use Click2Flash it's great, you can watch any youtube video without flash and without ads, I can have 7 videos loaded with minimal CPU load

I've noticed Safari suffer freezing in youtube as well, but only lately. I have the latest version of flash.

Had some problems with a version from about a month ago. Updated to the most recent version a few days ago, seems better.

There are versions of flash that run OK on the mac, and some versions that are terrible. Most of the time it has been OK for me.
