My XFX 4870 512MB card arrived today. Before I do anything, I am getting together with a friend to dump the original PC ROM and back it up. But once that's done, I am thinking of just flashing the card with the original Mac ROM dump (4870.ROM). I read in the big thread that some folks have had success with that. But it was unclear how much success.
So, gurus, what do you think of that idea? Is there any chance that will come closest to duplicating the functionality of a Apple 4870? Remember, this is a 512MB card, just like the Apple one.
Or, is it a complete waste of time?
I'm really unclear on just how successful using the straight 4870.ROM was for the folks that tried it.
