So an Adobe flash update popped up on my screen on its own and I installed it but right after that I checked some tech news and read about a new trojan called OSX/flashback.A which supposedly installs itself via an installer. The flash update occurred while I was visiting tech news sites so I don't think it's malicious but...

The flash update looked like the typical dark grey flash dialog, not an installer, but now I'm a bit paranoid. The flash preferences in system preferences say I currently have 10.3.183.10 installed.

Does this sound correct?

UGH! I hate second guessing my state of security!

Haha, the same thing happened to me earlier!

You should be fine. The real Flash installer uses a dark, flash-looking window while the trojan uses an Installer.app package that looks like this:

Whew.

Yes, it was definitely not that app installer window. Looked like my attached image.

Thanks for the image iindigo!

I installed the FLASH update and now...

most of my apps WILL NOT OPEN. BBEdit, Interarchy, Safari, Epson Scan. I even downloaded Intego VirusBarrier X6 and the .dmg will not start. This is no joke. If you hear of a cleaning process, please let me know. racine99@gmail.com...just in case I cannot get Firefox to open. I was using BBEdit this morning! Now I am afraid of closing an app; I won't be able to open it again.

This is the real deal this is being for updates since flashplayer 10.3 onwards the same type of things shows up for windows also.

Adobe built in an update mechanism with 10.3 flashplayer.

when flashplayer installs a smaller window of the same color appears.
