Flashing a Radeon 4870 in a Powermac G5

Hello - I just purchased a MacPro 1,1 on ebay without a video card. I figured I would get a Radeon 4870 and flash it myself. Here is my question:
Would I be able to flash this in this Mac Pro that I'm getting if the only card I had was the unflashed 4870? I don't see how that would work since I'm thinking it won't work until flashed. I also have a PowerMac G5. Can I flash the 4870 in that or can I take the video card out of that and put it in the MacPro during the flashing process? Sorry if these are stupid questions. :eek:
