I was watching a DVD on my Mac Book Pro (it's black) this morning. With no action on my part, the arrow on the mouse pointer went to the spinning colored ball. Though the video kept playing and the computer seemed fine, I could no longer click on anything because of the ball. I did a hard shut-down with the power button. When I tried to start it back up again, a light gray screen appeared with a flashing icon of a folder with a question mark inside. The DVD is still in the computer.

Since then, I have since tried:

* hitting the eject button after the folder is flashing.
* starting it up, then letting it sit for about a half-hour to see if the DVD will eject.
* starting it back up while holding Option, Command, P and R after leaving the computer powered down, unplugged and with the battery out for two hours.
* starting it back up while holding Control.
* starting it up while holding the eject button.
* drinking boxed wine.
