I have my mid-09 13" MBP hooked up to a Samsung 2033SW. If I turn the monitor on after OS X has started up, it will flash on and off at few second intervals, sometimes irregularly. I have to go to system preferences>display and click "Detect Displays" or restart my computer for this flashing to go away. Any idea how to make OS X automatically detect the display the moment I turn it on?

If you plug the display in while the MBP is running, does it have the same behavior?

Additionally, if you unplug and plug in the display cable, does it recognize it?

Which adapter are you using? VGA, DVI, or Dual-Link?

@geoffreak, @oculus : neither of those help. I'm using a the minidisplayport to DVI connector.
