To anyone who can offer advice,

I am trying to fix my parents 800 MHz ppc flat screen iMac. It all started with a simple software update that didn't complete, then the OS wouldn't boot, so I tried re-installing the OS and now it will NOT recognize the hard drive or the CD drive. I have tried re-setting the PRAM and changing the boot folder in the "bios". I am a reasonably seasoned Mac user and have seen many hardware issues, but I have absolutely NO idea what to do in this case. If anyone can offer advice (I've been perusing forums for a while and trying different snippets of wisdom that I could find, but anything is welcome) I would be most grateful. Even if you could offer someone to contact that would be excellent!

Thanks in advance,

If you hold down the option key, does the normal boot menu come up? (I'm not sure what it looks like or even if it appears at all when you have no bootable disk.)

Have you tried target disk mode?
