I was just changing my screen saver to the forest screen saver and noticed very visible horizontal scan lines in the preview window. I checked the other screen savers in the preview window and they all had vertically moving horizontal scan lines. There are also some vertical artefacts in the preview window. This is not visible when the screen saver is on in normal mode outside the preview box.

Hmm...something fishy going on. Don't want to start a scare here, just want to see if others have the same thing?

So this has nothing to do with the display. I attached my samsung 215tw and the wave-like scan lines are still there. I also checked my girlfriend's macbook and it's on hers too. I've never noticed this before. Weird. At least it's not the display!

This doesn't matter at all either way, but does anybody know why the scan lines occur in the preview window and not when using the actual screen saver?

You're right - it does it on my computer as well.

...But that's perfectly normal, and as far as I can tell, they've always been there.

But why would it do that there and not anywhere else? Just curious about what, technologically, is stopping it from being smooth in the preview window....

Horizontal scan lines usually happen when vsync is not enabled on for the graphics card, or it's not working properly. Perhaps the vsync is dynamic on this model, meaning that it only kicks in on full screen? This could explain it.
