Flickering on external monitor connected to MBP

Hi all

I have attached my MacBook Pro to my external 4K monitor using a thunderbolt (display port) to display port cable. The problem is the right hand edge of the screen has lines flickering all over it. The monitor also sometimes goes blank before coming back on again.

I've disconnected both ends of the cable and reconnected. I have also tried using the second thunderbolt port on the MBP but it's still doing the same thing.

Has anyone got any idea what might be wrong?
