Yahoo-owned photo sharing service Flickr today updated its iOS app to Version 3.2, bringing full optimization for the iPad along with other new features. Flickr for iPad allows users to browse images on their feeds in high resolution and contains a full camera interface and editing suite for shooting and editing photos. In addition to a new interface, Flickr also now comes with its own iOS 8 share extension that allows photos to be shared through social media services like Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter.

This version of the Flickr iOS app is optimized to take full advantage of the larger screen on iPad, while delivering the gorgeous design you expect of Flickr, our powerful camera, and the versatility you need to manage your photos while on the go. On iPad, Flickr can now display images in high resolution by pushing up to 3,000,000 pixels per photo.
Flickr launched a redesigned app for the iPhone earlier this year, which brought new features like live filters and HD video recording. The service was acquired by Yahoo in May 2013, which led to a major overhaul and 1TB of free photo storage space for all users.

Flickr is a free app for the iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded through the App Store. [Direct Link]

This Flickr iPad app is really very good & I've been a Flickr guy for 7-8 years.

I'm not sure if anyone i know uses this app. What is this app similar to instagram or different. Can you "sell" me this app? Bc i'm clueless and wonder if i should download it.

It gives you 1 TB of free photo storage (as the article says). You can organize your photos into albums; set different "permission" levels; etc.

So it's a way to store and share pics, publicly and/or with other Flickr users. A nice, platform-agnostic option if you don't want to put your eggs in the iCloud basket. I use it to (among other things) share pics with family members, via a "public" album that anyone can view on the Web.

Many years too late.. been wanting an official iPad app for a while. Switched to Google+ and much prefer it..

Not sure if I'll use this or continue using FlickStackr. I like the look on an iPhone but this is too Instagrammy for an iPad I feel. Either way, about time.

Use it if you want. Don't if you don't. Sold?

Great answer. You should work in retail. A customer will ask you what a product does and your answer will be "Use if you want. Don't if you don't." I recommend a job at Frys - you'd fit right in.

I also felt that Flickr was a little clumsy when trying to view content. When I share pictures I tend to just share via OneDrive or Dropbox. Maybe I need to give Flickr another go as it must have improved over the last 6 months or so.

Then you want the excellent FlickStackr app for iPad and iPhone - it makes Flickr good again, like it used to be.

Flickr as a platform, with the app I could still ignore all the features I don't need.

It's their focus that I don't like.

500px is the new flickr, but even they are catering a bit more to the grammers recently.

If you don't want to help don't reply. Or waste your time trying to be witty. I get it, its your choice. Right?

Definitely a great fit.

Second this. I think it's absurd to pay for cloud storage given the money we spend on these devices. One drive, drop box, box, and Flickr have all given me more free storage when spending considerably less/nothing with them. I don't see a point to iCloud photo library right now, or iCloud Drive for that matter

This should be a news article in itself. Why are those services free and apples aren't? wheres the catch?

The catch is you have to pay to have everything truly "seamless" and stay in their ecosystem. It looks like Flickr can be an alternative "view only" library. The cool thing about iCloud is that when you make edits on one device they are synced everywhere. That's the only difference I can tell.

If there is anything else, someone please chime in
