it seems as if the watch can't count flight of stairs climbed.

in the iPhone health app the flights climbed are only registered from the phone even though the sources are the watch and the phone?

is the watch not able to identify flights of stairs climbed?

The iPhone 6 has a barometer and the :apple:Watch doesn't. Probably because it must be mounted externally, and since the :apple:Watch case is sealed for water resistance it's not included.

I believe this uses the barometer (introduced in the 6 & 6 Plus) to measure elevation change and then relates that to flights of stairs climbed. And as far as I know (haven't seen any documentation or it referenced anywhere) the watch does not have a barometer.
