Floating video in browser

Why won’t Apple let us do floating video in Safari? Edge browser on the phone does it just fine.

Yes natively works in iPad... but not in the iPhone.

The suspicion so far has been that Apple doesn't believe there's enough space on the iPhone screen to do this in a way that provides an experience that they would consider to be good. It can certainly work fine at least on larger iPhones (for those who would care to use it), as your example demonstrates, but seems like so far Apple hasn't changed their mind about it.
