Fluctuating brightness on Handbrake transcodes

Hello folks,

This is an inquiry on behalf of a friend of mine, who bought my iMac from me a couple of months ago.

He's using Handbrake, with the 'AppleTV 2' preset, to transcode his DVD rips so that they're smaller. He finds the quality of the output files to be largely fine, though he's noticing that the brightness sometimes 'snaps' up and down while he's watching them.

Is there anything that can be done about this?
