A few weeks ago my wife and I converted to Android. That was fine, but removed us from iMessage.

I can access messages from any computer using a browser, but I switched messaging apps to Textra which doesn't have a web interface and apparently keeps it's own database.

So, today I tried Pushbullet, which has enough in the free version to work for me. You can access the content of your phone on their website.

Of course, there's no PowerPC Mac app and apparently none for Intel either except for third party devs (which I've installed on my MBP).

But Fluid, with an Intel OS X 10.14 User Agent works just fine. :D

As you can see…

Interesting, since I'll soon be receiving a Planet Computers Cosmo Communicator (Android) whilst owning a iPhone 6 and the Planet Computer Gemini .

Using Pushbullet you can still receive iMessages sent to your phone number via the website on your Android device ?
iMessages have been the main reason for me not to change platforms since most of my friends use a iOS device.

Nope. I just had my son iMessage my second line. He's on an SE and my second line is now for my 6s+ so it was iMessage all the way. Doesn't show up in Pushbullet.

There is a Pushbullet app in the app store for iOS but I suspect it only picks up SMS.

iMessage was great, but it's never been a deal breaker for us. SMS has always been fine. I know people like to hold on to it (iMessage) but your friend can't receive SMS?

They can receive SMS's but I know it not always switching from iMessage to text SMS.
Ah will switch SIM's one day and see what the impact is.
Nowadays most of them including work are using WhatsApp so ...

That sounds like a story in the making. :)
You would think right?

But no. The simple truth is that because of PowerPC, I was never trapped in the Apple ecosystem. My wife and I came to Apple with the launch of the iPhone 5. We were on Windows Mobile before that.

That's the year that Apple cut off the iPhone from PowerPC. iCloud was in it's infancy and only one way. I.e, you could move contacts to your device and any that you edited on your device would reflect to another device using iCloud, but NOT to any other device NOT using iCloud.

I had to construct multiple workarounds so that any time I made a change on my iPhone it pushed to Entourage on my Mac and vice versa. Google and Dropbox became my workarounds.

That's also why I got heavily into jailbreaking. I'm able to do those things with my iPhones that people using late Intel Macs and late versions of OS X can do because my iPhones are jailbroken.

Now that we've moved to Android, well, I've spent the last seven years using a Google account as a workaround. It's not exactly unfamiliar territory. :D

iMessage was convenient - I have a few people I message outside of the States. But SMS has never been a problem for me. Even with the iPhone I've always had more people using SMS than iMessage.
