Folder contents not visible

So I was going through folders today when I thought I had stumbled upon an empty folder - wrong.
It has "contents", just not visible.
There is a spinning cog wheel in the bottom right but nothing happens. I searched the forums and found a similar problem but the solution of changing the view style did nothing to help.
I have restarted, repaired permissions etc.
I don't know if this is related or not, but my trash also will not empty.

Possibly hidden files. Use Finder to search the folder and add the following criteria:

If the problem persists, re-index your drive. Spotlight: How to re-index folders or volumes

Did you reboot, log out and in, or restart the Finder? Those usually fix the problem.

Could have been a permission issue. Was this inside your home folder by any chance?

Actually, I recently deleted a partition and spotlight was reindexing.
The folders that werent showing contents were always within other folders, on my desktop.

It was about ten mins after my reboot that it went to normal.

Regardless, all is well again. If the issue recurs, I will reboot/log out/repair permissions. Thanks everyone.
