Take a look at the image below. This seems to be the limit for the number of applications that will display in the grid view before it starts scrolling. Seems to me the roughly 25% vertical screen space above it could be of use and I'd really rather not have the applications grid scroll if it doesn't have to.

Does anyone know if there's a way to increase the size? Maybe a default write parameter? I've been searching but I haven't found one and I've been through all of the preferences files as well and it doesn't seem to be there. BTW, the icons are at the minimum size limit using CMD-.

I think you’re trying to use to use a hammer to install a screw (i.e., the wrong tool). What is it you’re trying to do? If you just want an app launcher, try LaunchPad.

I'm just asking if there's a way to increase the size of the grid so it holds more icons before it starts scrolling. If it's not possible that's fine, I'll live with it. That's all I'm asking. I don't want a different tool. I don't need a different launcher.

never use the dock like that, but... what's wrong with other ways of launching apps? launchpad, spotlight... don't be afraid to change up your workflow a bit.

Never mind, I'll just go bang my head against a brick wall. It would be less painful.

That's frustrating. You were just asking for an answer. I'm also curious if it's possible. Your question applies to any folder with a lot of content, not just the Applications folder.

Your approach seems like a clever alternative to Apple's Launchpad. I happen to use LaunchBar but I enjoy alternatives just to spice up my day (that's how bad my day is).

less painful then trying something different? ok then
"Does anyone know if there's a way to increase the size? Maybe a default write parameter?"

See that? that was the question. If you didn't know the answer, why respond? Did I ask for anyone to provide alternatives based on their personal preferences? No.

Besides, somebody already DM'd what I asked about. Problem solved.

MR forums are frustrating about 1/2 the time. ;-)

Anyway, someone DM'd me a few suggestions in preferences files, so I'll hunt there.

yes, this is the first time in the history of this forum that ppl posted alternatives, workarounds for an issue. don't ask for help, then turn away ppl who offer help. this is how tech works; if we can't find a fix, we find a workaround. sometimes both (and sometimes neither). no need to get ugly about it.

I didn't ask for alternatives, I asked for an answer to a question.

"Does anyone know if there's a way to increase the size? Maybe a default write parameter?"

Do you know? How does, "use Launchpad", "use Spotlight", or your opinion that I might want to "change it up a bit" help me determine if there's a way to increase the size? 🤦‍♂️

If I was looking for alternatives, I would've asked.

The responses were well intentioned. They were addressing something that wasn't in the OP's question. From the list of applications showing, the OP is technical; I don't doubt they know how to launch applications in a variety of ways. The OP just wanted to make the window bigger.

Exactly.
