Folder icons change once in the dock - by design?

Hi all,

I've dragged my dropbox and downloads folders into the dock. In the finder they both have an icon but when I drop them onto the dock they just show as plain folders. The applications / documents folders on the dock have one so why don't mine?

Right click the dock icon and select "Folder."
