When I organize my Photo's I copy all the RAW images into a ' Lightroom imports' folder which is in 'Pictures'. I have also made a similar folder and want it so as soon as I copy files into this folder ' lightroom imports' it will automatically copy them into another folder called ' lightroom imports copy'

The reason been is that I have 2 copies of my RAW Photo's and so one copy will be completely untouched and the others will be imported into the Lightroom libary. I would prefer it to be automatic so that I don't have to copy them twice and also so that I know that what ever I copy into one folder it will automatically go into the other folder?

Is this at all possible ?

Thank You

Use automator for this. Do the following:
- start Automator from the Application folder
- create a custom workflow
- In the Actions column, choose Files & Folders
- Add the Get Items action and set your source folder of RAW images
- From the Actions column add Copy Finder Items to your workflow
- specify a folder or location to copy the items to
Now to Automate these simple actions
- File>Save As Plugin
- in the dialog, give your workflow a name
- Change Plug-in for to Folder Actions
- Change Attach to Folder to your source folder

Now, whenever you add pics to that source folder, it will make copies to back up folder

I can't see the ' get items' part, there is the ' Get folder contents ' ?
Thank You

Sorry about that. Should be Get Specified Finder Items. I was trying to be brief, but ended up being misleading.

See attachment.

It's just this last part I don't understand. I've attached a screenshot of what I've done so far...

It's the saving part, exactly what do I enter, and how do I attach it to the source folder ?

Thank You

The first field, type in whatever you want... it's just a name for the work flow.
In the second field, use the pull down to change Finder to Folder Actions
When the third field comes up, choose your RAW images folder. You can browse to it.

In the save dialog, pull down that Plug-In For: menu, and choose Folder Actions. When you do that, an attach to folder option should appear. Select the source folder as the folder to attach this action to, and it will automatically run whenever the contents of the folder you attached it to change - what you wanted, no?

That's perfect ! It's now copying all the files over !

I take it that it will automatically update itself from here and I don't have to do a thing now.

Automator is amazing, I never knew it did what it had today :D:D:D

Another brilliant feature in Leopard !

Thanks for your help

No problem. Glad you got through it. You are correct, you no longer have to do anything to create those back up files.

And the ' status' of the items will not change i.e. when the source file is altered in anyway, the copied file won't change as it's not synchronized, only copied.

EDIT: I've just copied a single file into the source folder, and the other folder hasn't been ' updated'

hmm this is weird. It's not updating the folder contents anymore... I have ensured that folder actions are enabled too :(

Any ideas ?
