I know it's probably impossible to tell until the new hardware comes out, but if folders in iOS 8 on iPhone 6 & 6+ are still 3x3, I'm gonna be pissed

Yep. Unfortunately, you'll have to live with swiping through one or two pages of apps every once in a while.

Edit: Whoops, thought you were talking about iOS 8 not the new iPhones. I saw someone tweet it's still 3x3 though on the 6 plus.

WTF? I can understand 3x3 if we were all still under iPhone4, I couldn't understand the confinement under iPhone 5, now I'm perplexed with these even larger screens...iOS should be smart enough to recongnize the hardware and make the neccessary adjustments

They are 3x3 because of the icon layout. If they had more rows they wouldn't zoom in neatly like they do (And wouldn't be square) They could do 4x4, but with the increased PPI on the 6+ they would be super tiny on the folder icon.

Or, the software could be smart enough to recognize the hardware and display in 3x4 (5/5s) or 3x5 (6/6+)

Still having 3x3 on the iPad is a bad joke. The whole point of folders is to have fewer pages of apps to swipe through, but you end of having to swipe even more WITH folders.

Yeah, they are good for organization, but c'mon more than 9 on a page please!

Apple has clearly prioritized what the folders look like BEFORE you click on them. In that zoomed-out view, 3x3 is the only reasonable choice.

I understand you don't like that, but asking about iPads and iPhone Pluses and whatnot is completely irrelevant. What the folders look like when they're open means nothing because that's not what's driving this decision.

This is a little disappointing. Apple had a good change of using the larger phone screen to change and improve iOS. So far we are only seeing subtle changes.
