ok this is going to sound sad, but can someone explain the difference between all the iPad cases out there.

Obviously I know what a sleeve and smart cover is, but what's a folio? are there any "other" types?

I'm thinking of buying one of these, but I figure I will be taking it to college, so any recommendations (type wise)

I don't have direct experience, as this will be my first iPad and I'm in the market for cases as well. However, I do know some things while scouring this forum. A folio is a case where you really have a flap that folds around to the front, kind of like a "book."

As for recommendation, it really depends on your style and your type of personality (based on keeping it mint or fear of dropping, etc.).

Personally, I'm leaning towards an Incipio Smart Feather (back covering), which has functionality when combined with Apple's Smart Cover. I may also get a sleeve so that I can put it in my backpack as well.

Good luck with your search!

i have a folio style case (canvas) and a smart cover. the folios make it kind of bulky in my opinion... i guess it's good if you use it for work/travel due to the extra protection. mine will primarly be used on the couch, so the smart cover is great since you can just pull it off when needed. i'll probably get a TPU case for the back so it's not scratching up itself or my furniture.

I was going to get a folio for the protection plus being a stand. Then I decided I liked the feel and craftsmanship of the device and didn`t want to cover it up. I went for a compromise -- smart cover without anything on the back plus a heavy felt sleeve )by byrd&belle on easy.com - love it!). The smart cover works ok as a stand in portrait mode but most of the time I hold the device or lay it flat. I may get some sort of hard case if I am going to take the device outdoors much. I do really like that the smart cover puts the device in sleep mode. You can get that with some folios also.

thanks guys!
i finally decided on this:
http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Ma...ection/dp/B007I6HZXE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

the only sad part is the sleep/wake feature doesn't work, but i really don't think it's a huge dealbreaker. Maybe they will replace these with the correct polarized magnets and give it to the purchasers for free. But still seems like a lovely case.

I'll receive it on Tuesday and then I will write a review here. But there is already a fantastic one on Amazon (the one with the most helpful one)
