Font Alias

I'm having an issue where I receive a document to edit in say Illustrator and the document is set to have a particular font. I have the font. I use the font but receiving the document say from a windows user the font has some sort of minor alias but OSX doesn't recognize it. Is there a way to define the alias system wide so that if a program is looking for say:

Adobe Garamond Pro Bold any of these will work:

AGaramondPro-Bold
Adobe GaramondPro Bold
AGaramond-Bold

?
