Font Character Spacing Issue

I am having a character spacing issue with the italic version of Arial. Please see attached image for an example of this spacing issue. Any ideas on how to fix it?



I have already deleted the font file from my system and copied it from another computer, to no avail. I have this odd feeling the issue is related to Microsoft Office (which has given me font issues in the past). The issue, however, seems to be showing up only in Pages and not in other applications.

To my eye it doesn't look like a font problem but is, instead, a justification problem. Change the justification from 'full' to 'left' and the character spacing should return to 'normal.'

Ah, forgot to mention that I did try that. At first, that's what I thought it might be (even though the italic text is more pronounced than the regular text). See attached image for left-aligned version:

Managed to resolve this font issue. Microsoft Office = font cache corruption, apparently.
