First the facts. I am running OS X 10.6.8, my finder default is 48x48 with 11 point font, and lcd font smoothing turned on. When using that setting finder cuts off the bottom of of lower case g's, p's, q's and y's. The thing I find curious is that not every descender is cut off. It is just a little less than half of them are affected, in a seemingly arbitrary manner. If I drop the font to 10 point less letters are affected in relation to 11 point, but it is still a noticeable amount. To get those letters to render properly in Finder I have to turn off font smoothing. The other option is setting the font to 12 point, which is not a perfect fix since about 1 in 4 lower case p's have the descender cut off . I really don't like either of those options for aesthetic reasons, so I was hoping someone knew of a fix that will allow proper rendering of g,p,q and y at 11 point with font smoothing on.
Thanks In Advance,

(I also attached a screen grab of a finder folder using the default setting and annotated to point out the descender errors)
