Couldn't Apple simply rework the iPad mini into a phone? They already can produce them and not have screen issues.

They talk about people in China being big on phablets. Or simply make all of the iPads phones as well?

I try to picture someone holding a full size iPad up to their ears to make a phone call, and it sounds weird to me though.

Just a thought.

I, for one, would like to have an iPad mini capable of making calls strictly for home use as an option to an iPhone. At home, I prefer a laptop or iPad versus an iPhone. It would be so convenient to make the call right there and then, rather than reaching for an iPhone.

Go download an app... there are many apps that allow free calling for phone numbers under wifi.

While that is true, I was thinking in terms of a true phone, with full phone radios and equipment.

Adding this tech would require a major redesign for the internals. Every millimeter of the iPads are currently used. The big reasons iPod touches could be so thin over 2 years ago was due to the fact it wasn't a phone.

People (generally speaking) that want a bigger iPhone want an addition .5" - 1.5" bigger then its current size and even at that a lot of people are up in arms about it. The Mini is 4" bigger then the current iPhone ...

You picturing something like that sounds weird because nothing like that exist therefore it IS weird... :D

Maybe the cell iPad with the skype app? I wonder if anybody has done that.

Who would want to actually use the iPad mini as your phone? Can't exactly slip in and out of your pocket with ease, not to mention using it on the go.

I did use the first 7" Galaxy Tab as a phone occasionally, and I did see a few people who did that as well. And this was back when nobody had even thought of the word "phablet".

Yeah Yeah Yeah lets make 7.9 inch phones. Then the next year come out with a 9.7 inch phone. Cuz HUGE phones sell so well... Im already thinking that a 4.7 will be a bit unfriendly with pockets.

The cellular iPad isn't a phone; it only has data capabilities without extra 3rd party apps.

Nobody wants/needs a iPad as a phone. At that point why not just have one of those old brick cell phones?

I make calls with my iPad all the time, but through one of many apps and never while holding it up to my head.
