I ordered a plus last week using the apple app, then returned it to the Apple Store (I ordered a 16g and wanted to return to get a 64g). I figured I would just keep looking for a 64 for personal pickup and reserve again. Problem was that Apple would not let me place another order (on app and online) because a "order was already associated to this phone number". Seems like a glitch in the system they told me (Verizon did not have any problems on their end)
4 days later (after the return), I still get the error. So instead, I found a plus for personal pickup, ordered it as a new Verizon line. Went to the store, they allowed me to "cancel" that order on the spot and buy the phone as device only (that's what I wanted to do in the first place)
Moral of the story is, if you are getting this error, you can still open another line, choose personal pickup, and if you get a nice apple associate in the store, you can make it work and never have to activate the new line you ordered
