ok well i saw a thread recently where people were complaining about the spin down issue with the momentus xt. this spin down is for power management and can beach ball your mac for a second or two during the spin down. it spins down to save power when you might be viewing a page and doing anything. the problem is as soon as you go to do something it has to spin back up. this also racks up your load cycle count and drastically reduces your drives life.

but the thing is, all drives do this in osx. some seem to do it more and louder than others. but there is a solution. its called hdapm. you can manually set the power settings of your drive and make it never totally spin down. i have done this and dont notice any battery life change. and my load cycle count is at 1200 after 7 months. my old drive was up to 10000 in just 2 weeks.

here is my other thread explaining more. scroll down a bit to find detailed instructions i have written in order to install and run hdapm. trust me you will love your drive after this.
